She is known for her film debut Hairspray (2007), the reality television competition show Canadian Idol (2003), and the short film Primetime (2016). Smyth has also appeared on several talk shows including eTalk Daily (2010), Entertainment Tonight Canada (2010), CityLine (2009), and Breakfast Television (2004).
