Prabha Devi

Prabhadevi was born in Calcutta on the 12th of August 1903. She entered the stage at about the age of eight and went on to become one of the leading stage personalities of Bengal. Like most actresses of her time she acted in films, also, her first screen appearance being Matri Sneha (1923). She played lead characters in films like _Pally Samaj (1932)_ and _Sita (1933)_ . Continuing both on the stage and the screen she made more than one hundred films in big and small roles till almost the end of her life. Prabhadevi was also a poet of great strength and her works have been published as books. One of her daughters, Ketaki Dutta, was also a well known stage and screen personality. Prabhadevi breathed her last on the 8th of November,1952 after a brief illness.
