Charukesh Sekar

Charukesh Sekar is an Indian filmmaker known for writing and directing the critically acclaimed Telugu film Ammu (2022), widely praised for its uncompromising portrayal of domestic violence.Based in Chennai, Charukesh Sekar began his filmmaking journey after completing his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. He directed several short films early in his career, including Mr. & Mr. Iyer (2009), Life and Death of a Rebel (2011) starring Ashok Selvan, and Puzhu (2015) starring Rishikanth and Sharath Ravi.Puzhu was selected for the inaugural edition of Bench Talkies (2015), an anthology curated by filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Stone Bench Films. Following this, Charukesh Sekar joined Stone Bench as a Curator for their short films acquisition and later served as Creative Director for the company’s advertising films division.In 2017, he served as Creative Producer on Stone Bench’s first theatrical production, Meyaadha Maan, directed by Rathna Kumar. He later worked on Karthik Subbaraj’s blockbuster Petta (2019) before directing the streaming series "Triples", written by Balaji Jayaraman.Charukesh Sekar made his feature film writing and directing debut with the Prime Video Telugu original "Ammu", starring Aishwarya Lekshmi and Naveen Chandra. The film received strong critical reception, with reviewers describing it as "a powerful, unsettling look at domestic abuse" and praising its "raw emotional intensity and fearless storytelling."Following Ammu, Charukesh Sekar is working on the Tamil Netflix series "Legacy", starring R. Madhavan, Gulshan Devaiah, Abhishek Banerjee, Nimisha Sajayan and Gautham Karthik among several others.
