Patty Newton

Filmmaker Patty Newton works in fiction and documentary as writer/producer/director. Her favorite toy as a child was the Give-A-Show Projector. Her most recent NEA-funded project, City Hearts is a short documentary about a group of ex-offenders whose lives are transformed by art. Alchemy: Portrait of a Wood Fire Kiln, an art-based documentary that she shot and self-produced in Florida will be released in 2016.Newton won the Cine Golden Eagle for producing the award winning short, A Window That Opens. She was honored to work on PBS/KCET's Emmy award-winning documentary California at War, Tavis Smiley's seminal civil rights documentary Stand and PBS's series Wired Science. Her award-winning short film Pursuit, which she wrote and directed, spent two years on the international festival circuit after a successful domestic run including Palm Springs ShortFest.
