Born in New York, Emily was the younger sister of actor Jack La Rue (1902-1984). Following in her big brother's footsteps, she relocated to Hollywood while still a teenager. She did make one change when taking her screen name, preferring to spell her last name with no spacing (LaRue) whereas opposed to her brother who used "La Rue" with a space. ...
