Charmaine Bingwa

Charmaine Bingwa is a Zimbabwean-Australian actor and writer. Best known for her powerful turn as Carmen Moyo on The Good Fight (2017), and for her Black Reel Award-nominated performance opposite Will Smith as Dodienne in Antoine Fuqua's Emancipation (2022). She reunited with Antoine Fuqua for the historical epic King Shaka (2023).Her screen credits also include Santa Barbara International Film Festival Jury Award-winning feature released on Netflix Trees of Peace (2021) and Sundance-selected Black Box (2020).Bingwa was awarded the Heath Ledger Scholarship (2018) for exceptional talent and craft by a panel consisting of Oscar-winner Matt Damon, Oscar-nominees Naomi Watts and Rose Byrne, Emmy-winner Elizabeth Debicki, Carmen Cuba, Jeremy Podeswa and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Elizabeth Debicki noted that her final audition "absolutely blew me and my fellow judges away."Of her Good Fight casting, creators Michelle and Robert King said "We are thrilled that Charmaine is bringing her enormous talents to The Good Fight ensemble. The moment that we saw her audition, we knew that we had found our Carmen."Bingwa created, wrote, produced and starred in Little Sista, winner of Best Screenplay at the LGBT Toronto Film Festival and selected for more than fifteen festivals internationally. She is also an Equity Atlantic Award winner and Sydney Theatre Award nominee.She holds a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Commerce.
