Sue Kim(VII)

Sue Kim grew up in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Korean immigrants, and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in English Literature. After receiving a second degree for graphic design, she ran an independent record label before landing in the commercial industry as a producer. She spent almost 20 years making award-winning content, commercials and short form documentaries for brands like Nike and Adidas before pivoting into directing. Her directorial debut, "The Speed Cubers," launched on Netflix in July 2020, entering the Top 10 in multiple countries and later went on to be nominated for a Critics Choice and Peabody Award as well as shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination.After serving as an Executive Producer of the series "Kpop Idols" for Apple TV+, Kim directed and produced "The Last of the Sea Women," a feature film about the legendary haenyeo free divers of South Korea, also for Apple TV+. "The Last of the Sea Women" premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, winning the prestigious NETPAC award, and went on to win three Critics Choice Documentary Awards as well as garnering a nomination for a Peabody Award.
