Shankar Ramakrishnan

Shankar Ramakrishnan is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter and actor working primarily in Malayalam cinema. A law graduate who moved into filmmaking, he wrote the story and screenplay for Santosh Sivan’s historical epic Urumi (2011) and directed Island Express in the anthology film Kerala Cafe (2009), followed by Pathinettam Padi (2019) and Rani: The Real Story (2023).His work has taken him across India and internationally, with shoots and creative assignments in locations including Portugal and parts of the Middle East, giving him experience across diverse production environments and visual cultures.As an actor, he made his screen debut in Spirit (2012) and has since appeared in films including Bavuttiyude Namathil, How Old Are You, Nirnayakam, Loham, One, Kaval, Meppadiyan, Pada, Varaal and Thalavan. His work also extends to commercial direction, Malayalam dialogue adaptation, dubbing, voice casting and museum-based narrative projects.Across cinema and other visual media, Ramakrishnan’s work is rooted in performance, culture, history and large-scale storytelling.
